In accordance with the 7th Pay Commission recommendation, several countries announced an increase in the salary of their employees and pensioners. Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees and retirees had been announced by the central government to grow 3 per cent. The order is effective from 1 January 2019 and benefits CG employees and pensioners of 1.1 crore.

The government of Rajasthan and the Odisha government also took a similar step within the 7th Pay Commission days after the announcement. The decision is likely to benefit at least 7 lakh workers from this northern state.

Meanwhile, the DA and DR have been announcing a rise of the 3% effects from 1 January 2019 under Governor Satya Pal Malik, and are saying that the exchequer will be under Rs 600 crore financial pressure. If reports are to be believed, in the next few days, many other countries will announce DA and DR employee allowances.

Before the Lok Sabha election, the Central Government led by Premier Narendra Modi is not leaving the staff unturned. The employees requested the increase in Basic Pay under the 7th Pay matrix from the current Rs 18, 000 to Rs 26,000. In the meantime, the Central Government has yet to confirm whether this good news is in reality going to make any difference.
